This is the beginning of the lower half of the Bobonaza (just below a small military post named Montalvo). This section of the river, which is where Isabel Godin became lost, is much more inhospitable than the upper half. The river is filled with leeches and stingrays, and the surrounding landscape is laced with lakes and swamps, making it an an ideal environment for poisonous snakes and jaguars. Insects are also much more of a bother in the swampy landscape.
